Little Joys Quilt Along ~ Finishing

We've reached the last week for the Little Joys Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop. The finishing instructions are available for download on their Jolły Jabber blog. I enjoyed playing with these beautiful fabrics by Elea Lutz. Here is my finished quilt! I am so pleased with how it turned out. For quilting I did a free motion figure eight kind of thing. It reminded me of Christmas lights on a string. I can't wait to hang this up. Would now be to soon? Hehe.

I had a nice bit of the green backing fabric from the kit Fat Quarter Shop has for this quilt. I used some to cut 1.5 inch strips, folded in half and basted to the front before binding, to add just a little something special to the quilt. I really like how it turned out. I think it just encases the blocks and makes it cozy looking.

It seemed funny to be taking pictures of a Christmas quilt the sweltering heat! But I suppose that's how it is for many of our friends in different parts of the world during Christmas. There was a little breeze under the trees out of the sun.

Here is a super sunny shot from out under the trees. Definitely Christmas in July! Please check out the Jolly Jabber blog for more info on the quilt along. This quilt really was a "Little Joy" to make.

Little Joys Quilt Along ~ Week 4 ~ Season of Giving Block

It was really pretty and peaceful out this morning while I was snapping a shot of my present blocks.

I am loving the little pops of pink in these Christmas blocks. I tried to make one block exactly as called for in the pattern, one block that was mostly pinks and then a third block with a more scrappy feel. I  laid all of my blocks out this morning and they look so cute together!

I love the pinwheels in this block! I have an older tutorial HERE for flat pinwheels. They are one of favorite things to sew. Mainly because I love after they are sewn together and I go to press them I get so excited over a "perfect" center where all the points look great! Not that they are always perfect but when it happens it's awesome!

The free download for the block is available now at Fat Quarter Shop's blog Jolly Jabber HERE. Are you sewing along? I am pretty excited about having my very own Christmas quilt to hang this year!

The Pretty Quilting on My Scrumptious Quilt

The Scrumptious Broken Wheel quilt for my daughter is finished! This one was a WIP for almost 2 years. It feels great to have finished it!

My friend Donna did the quilting for me on her longarm. Isn't it so pretty?! I wanted this quilt to be really special for my daughter. We even painted her room to match the aqua/minty color in the fabric line. She picked out the quilting pattern she liked. It's called Popcorn and I think it looks so nice on this quilt!

This is my favorite block in the quilt.

I really enjoy quilting on my sewing machine but sending this one out to be quilted by Donna was really great! It was the first time I have had a quilt quilted for me and I am thrilled with Donna's beautiful quilting! Can I also say how nice it was to not have to crawl all over the floor to baste it?! it was really nice!

I used the corally pink bias stripe from the Scrumptious line for binding. Here is more of the quilting detail.

My daughter loves it too! I washed and dried it right away and she has been happily snuggling under it's crinkly goodness ever since.

I just want to thank Donna for doing such a beautiful job quilting this for me. It was such a pleasant experience especially for my first time having a quilt sent out. It was so smooth. I purchased my batting and backing fabric from her and she ships your quilt back to you for free. I thought that was awesome.

HERE is her info if you are ever in need of longarm services.

Hope all is well where you are. Have a great week!

Little Joys Quilt Along ~ Week 2 :: Trim the Tree Blocks

The first block for the Little Joys Quilt Along is now available for free download HERE on the Fat Quarter Shop blog. These blocks were really fun to sew up. I switched up the colors for 2 of them and added a little pink from Elea Lutz's Little Joys fabric line. I really love the touch of pink. The vintagey feel of these little prints is so sweet! I'm looking forward to next week's block!
