Alphabitties ~ How I'm Using Them

I got these cute little Alphabitties from Fat Quarter Shop.

I've been using them for my Briar Rose quilt. They work great with the Clover Wonder Clips. They are much cuter than the scraps of paper I used to use for keeping track of my rows and I don't poke myself with pins.

Of course, the kids like them too!

a lot!

Yup, she thinks they are hers! I think I might get another pack and attach magnets to the back of them for our school whiteboard. They are just too cute!

A Pretty Potholder

I finally got around to making a potholder using Amy's tutorial. The tutorial is great. I added a crocheted trim instead of the ruffle that Amy uses. I also just cut my binding on the crosswise grain instead of the bias. I had enough stretch for the binding to wrap around the curves nicely. My quilting is a little wonky or what I like to call "organic" :)

I will definitely be making more of these. They are so cute and there are so many quilting and design ideas to make them all different. I'll be making some of these for Christmas gifts for sure. This one is going away to my swap partner along with this coaster.
Hope all is well where you are.

Happy Friday!

Just popping in to say I hope you have a lovely weekend! I finished this little coaster for a swap I'm doing on Instagram. I have some weekend sewing plans.

I hope to get to play with these lovelies!!!

I got them from Sew Me a Song. Becca has such a fabulous selection of Japanese and text prints. I can find prints from some of my favorite designers, Atsuko Matsuyama and Suzuko Koseki, in her shop too! This shop is such a gem and I have spent hours eying up all of the pretties!

I am really excited that the 2nd round of the cocrico bee has started and these prints are perfect to add to my stash for the paper pieced blocks I will make for my bee mates.

WIP Wednesday 3/5/2014 ~ Briar Rose Patchwork

(not sew yet, just fused down)
Hello!
Yesterday I cleaned off my design wall. I had this patchwork at the top of it since September. I had to do something with it. I didn't want to just take the squares down and let them sit until who knows when. I remembered something I had seen on Elizabeth Hartman's blog years ago about using fusible interfacing for postage stamp blocks (I think it was postage stamp blocks). I'm pretty sure I used the method for this little doll quilt and then tucked it away in my mind and forgot about it. I remembered it the other day when I was thinking about making piles of these squares and chain piecing them which I really don't have time for right now. I decided to use the method for these 3" blocks. I figured even if I didn't get to sew them right away at least they would be altogether and ready when I could sew them. I think that you are supposed to use interfacing that has a grid or mark a grid but I did not do that.

I'm making 8 or 12 panels like this. Depending on how much fabric I have. I may have to get more Briar Rose. I want this one to be near queen size. I am going to sew 2 panels together and then quilt each section as I go. My basting area is so small and I think quilting as I go and then joining the sections will work great. At least I hope it does :)

I did get to sew the 2 panels. This method for patchwork is so fast and the seams look perfect. I'm definitely using this technique again!!!

Hope you are having a great week!

Happy Sewing!
